Thompson, MB to Grand Rapids, MB 228 miles

More snow when we got up the next morning and several rigs not ours had difficulty closing their slides and one persons TV antenna was up and frozen. We left with a slight covering of snow on the road that stayed with us for several hours.

We headed south back on much of the same road we had traversed coming. Eventually the road turned towards Winnipeg. We crossed the 55th and 53rd parallel and passed several provincial parks and over several bridges. There is nothing in Grand Rapids except a Shell station truck stop and a Tim Horton (Canada's version of Dunkin Donuts) luckily the Shell station had diesel but the Tim Horton's baker had not come to work that day so there were no donuts and they had no internet either. This is where we spent the night boondocking.

The pictures say it all, normally I wouldn't post so many but this is too good to pass up. LOL. Actually it was cold but not raining so you could say we dodged a bullet.

Sometimes being a game warden is a lousy job. As we pulled in and set up in the muddy parking lot a two year old bear kept coming out of the woods heading for the garbage. He or she was injured and the staff of the Tim Horton had called the game warden The Warden put out some bait and stood their with his shotgun waiting for the poor bear to come out. The bear did shortly thereafter and the Warden shot him or her. One of our fellow travelers a hunter went over and helped the warden load the bear into his truck.

The original trip guide called for a barbecue in the Peace Garden and no meal at Grand Rapids. Somewhere along the way this was changed. We had a lasagna dinner in the Peace Garden and a pulled pork dinner in the Shell Station. With a little luck, pleasant weather and flawless execution, the leaders pulled off what could have been a disaster in the Shell station and we all had a good time.
